How does Invisalign work!
By using a series of custom trays called aligners, Invisalign® treatment slowly shifts teeth into the correct position, without the use of metal brackets or wires. Aligners are replaced approximately every two weeks, with each new set making teeth a little straighter than the last. Aligner trays are made of a smooth, nearly invisible plastic and are custom-made for each patient’s teeth, so they are hardly noticeable to other people when worn.
What kinds of problems can Invisalign correct?
Invisalign® can address all of the same tooth alignment problems as traditional metal braces. Common concerns that can be treated by Invisalign® include overbite, underbite, crossbite, gaps between teeth or overcrowded teeth that are too close together.
How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?
Invisalign® offers a more flattering, modern alternative to traditional metal bracket braces. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® aligner trays can be removed so that patients can enjoy normal foods. Many patients do not like the look of traditional braces. Invisalign® aligners are almost invisible while still providing almost the same straightening results as traditional metal braces, often in less time.
What happens during Invisalign treatment?
Before Invisalign® treatment starts, Dr. Sajadi makes a customized plan of action for the patient’s individual mouth and needs. Planning begins by taking three-dimensional digital images of the entire jaw. Using these images, Dr. Sajadi can visualize how teeth need to move to create a straight, beautiful smile.
Once a plan is in place, the first custom set of aligner trays is made. Aligner trays are replaced every two weeks with a progressively straighter set. Often, noticeable improvements can be seen between each appointment!
What should be expected while wearing Invisalign?
During treatment, the patient is advised to wear aligners at all times except while eating, typically up to 22 hours a day. Aligners should be removed at meals so that the patient can eat any type of food during treatment. Doctors recommend that patients continue to brush their teeth and aligners after every meal prior to putting the aligner trays back on. Minor discomfort is normal for the first few days after starting a new set of aligner trays – this is a sign that teeth are moving into position.
